Embraer

Embraer S.A. is a Brazilian aerospace conglomerate that produces commercial, military, executive and agricultural aircraft and provides aeronautical services. It is headquartered in São José dos Campos, São Paulo State. The company is the third largest producer of civil aircraft, after Boeing and Airbus.
Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica (Embraer) was created in 1969 as a government-owned corporation. The Brazilian Government contributed to Embraer's early growth by providing production contracts. The company sold solely to the domestic market until 1975.
In 1992 Embraer started a privatization process along with many other state-controlled companies in Brazil. Embraer was sold on December 7, 1994, which helped it avoid a looming bankruptcy. The company continued to win government contracts throughout the 2000s and 2010s.
In the mid-1990s, the company pursued a product line more focused on small commercial planes over the military aircraft that had previously made up the majority of its manufacturing. It soon expanded to the production of larger regional airliners, with 70–110 seats, and smaller business jets. Today, the company manufactures for both defense and commerce.

Embraer and Boeing

After Airbus acquired a majority of the competing Bombardier CSeries on October 16, 2017, Boeing started takeover talks with the 18,000 employee strong Embraer. On December 22, 2017, Brazilian president Michel Temer said the sale of Embraer to Boeing was "out of the question", adding that the government is in favor of a partnerships with the company, but warning that it will veto changes in stock control.
On July 5, 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding for a strategic partnership was announced. For $3.8 billion Boeing will hold 80% of a joint venture for Embraers's airliners and services (valued at $4.75 billion), and Embraer will own the remaining 20%. On December 6, a Brazilian federal court forbade the joint venture, as it would give the profitable airliner division away for free and would remove it from Brazilian Government control.
On November 18, 2019, Boeing (49%) and Embraer (51%) announced a joint venture to promote and develop new markets for the C-390 Millennium tactical transport aircraft, named Boeing Embraer - Defense, to operate after the regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
On December 17, 2018, a strategic partnership of Boeing and Embraer was announced, subject to Brazilian Government, shareholder and regulatory approval. Boeing will pay $4.2 billion for its 80% stake in the joint venture, valuing Embraer $5.25 billion. On December 20, 2018, in response to Embraer's union class action, the same judge of the Federal Court blocked the proposed sale again as "the brutal asymmetry in the shareholder structure of this venture prevents it from being carried out without compromising the survival of national interests", an injunction contested by Embraer. On December 22, the injunction was overturned by the president of the Federal Court (saying it was outside the court's purview), allowing the proposed sale to proceed. On January 10, 2019, the new Brazilian government approved as it would "maintain the current jobs in Brazil", while no commitment was made before. On February 26, 2019, the partnership was approved by Embraer's shareholders. Embraer and Boeing announced the acquisition of an 80% share of Embraer's commercial division, which would market the E-Jet and E-Jet E2 series of narrow-body short-to medium-range twin-engine jet airliners. On May 23, Boeing announced that the division will be known as "Boeing Brasil - Commercial", dropping the Embraer name.
On April 24, 2020, Boeing terminated the planned joint ventures, saying that Embraer did not satisfy the conditions established in their agreement. Industry analysts said that the $4.2 billion deal became unbalanced as Embraer's market value fell to less than $1.1 billion as air travel demand dropped as a result of the impact of the 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic on aviation. Industry analysts speculated that Boeing may have also cancelled the deal because it had recently been awarded a U.S. government pandemic relief loan, and wanted to avoid making the impression that funds intended to support U.S. jobs were instead used to secure a deal with a Brazilian firm. Embraer rejected Boeing's reasons for the termination of the deal and said the company "has manufactured false claims as a pretext to seek to avoid its commitments" because of its financial condition after the 737 MAX groundings and "other business and reputational problems.

Embraer ERJ 135

The baseline model ERJ 135ER (extended range) is a shrink of the ERJ 145, with up to 37 passengers. The ERJ 135LR (long range) has increased fuel capacity and upgraded engines. Production started in 1999.

Embraer ERJ 145

The ERJ 145 was launched at the Paris Airshow in 1989 as a stretched and turbofan-powered modification of the EMB 120 Brasilia.
Variants: ERJ 145STD (baseline original, seating for a total of 50 passengers), ERJ 145EU (optimized for the European market, same fuel capacity as 145STD (4,174 kg) but an increased MTOW 19,990 kg), ERJ 145ER (Extended Range, although this is the baseline 145 model), ERJ 145EP (same fuel capacity as 145ER (4,174 kg) but an increased MTOW 20,990 kg), ERJ 145LR (Long Range, increased fuel capacity (5,187 kg) and upgraded engines), ERJ 145LU (same fuel capacity as 145LR (5,187 kg) but an increased MTOW 21,990 kg), ERJ 145MK (same fuel capacity (4,174 kg), landing weight (MLW) and MTOW as in the 145STD, but a changed MZFW (17,700 kg)), ERJ 145XR (Extra-long Range, numerous aerodynamic improvements, including winglets, strakes, etc. for lower cruise-configuration drag; a ventral fuel tank (aft location) in addition to the two main larger capacity wing tanks (same tanks as in the LR models), increased weight capacity, higher top speed and up-rated engines).

Embraer 170

The Embraer 170 is a narrow-body medium-range twin-engine jet airliner, carrying about 80 passengers. It was first shown at the Paris Air Show on 14 June 1999. The first 170s were delivered in March 2004.

Embraer 175

The Embraer 175 is a streched version of the 170. First flight was in June 2003. The first 175 was delivered to Air Canada and entered service in July 2005.

Embraer 190

The Embraer 190 is a stretched version of the 170, fitted with a new, larger wing, a larger horizontal stabilizer and a new engine. The first flight of the 190 was on 12 March 2004. The launch customer was New York-based low-cost carrier jetBlue with 100 orders options in 2003 which took its first delivery in 2005. The 190 can carry up to 100 passengers in a two-class configuration or up to 124 in single-class high density configuration.
The 190 and 195 compete with the Bombardier CRJ-1000 and CS100, the Boeing 717-200 and 737-600, and the Airbus A318.

Embraer 195

The 195 is a larger stretch of the 175. The first flight of the 195 was on 7 December 2004. British low-cost carrier flybe was the first operator of the 195, had 14 orders and 12 options, and started 195 operations on 22 September 2006.

Embraer 195-E2

The E195-E2 (EMB 190-400) is a variant of the 195 that is extended by three seat rows and accommodates up to 146 seats. It first flew on 29 March 2017. Embraer showcased the prototype at the Paris Air Show in June 2017 and planned to enter service in the first half of 2019.

Embraer Legacy and Embraer Praetor

The Embraer Legacy 450/500 and Praetor 500/600 are a family of mid-size and super mid-size business jets built by Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer. The aircraft family was launched with the Legacy 500 in April 2008 and were the first jets in the size category to feature a flat-floor stand-up cabin and fly-by-wire.
The Praetor 500 and 600 are improvements of the Legacy 450 and 500, respectively, that were introduced in October 2018 offering more range. The Praetor 600 has a range of 4,018 nmi (7,440 km), while the Praetor 500 has a range of 3,340 nmi (6,190 km). Embraer introduced improved variants at the October 2018 NBAA convention, the Praetor 500 and 600, presented on display, with 3,250 nmi (6,019 km) and 3,900 nmi (7,223 km) of range; the 600 should be certified in the second quarter of 2019 and the 500 in the third quarter of 2019. Both have 22 by 50 in (56 by 127 cm) taller and wider winglets. The $17 million Praetor 500 boosts the fuel capacity of the Legacy 450 from 12,108 to 13,058 lb (5,492 to 5,923 kg) to match the Legacy 500. The $21 million Praetor 600 is based on the Legacy 500 with two tanks on the fuselage belly for 2,928 lb (1,328 kg) more fuel for a 15,986 lb (7,251 kg) capacity, and more powerful 7,528 lbf (33.49 kN) HTF7500E engines.
Praetor 600 flight testing began on 31 March 2018 and 300h were logged with three aircraft by October 2018, while the Praetor 500 flight tests began on 13 September 2018 with 80h accumulated. The synthetic vision system has a flight guidance system for CAT I airports approach with SBAS, allowing decision height to be reduced from 200 to 150 ft (61 to 46 m). Within US SBAS zones, the synthetic vision guidance system (SVGS) allows autopilot-flown instrument approaches down to 150 ft (46 m) height and 1,300 ft (400 m) RVR without the optional Rockwell Collins EVS and HUD.
Previous Legacy 450s can be upgraded to the Praetor 500 configuration for $500,000. For the higher thrust Praetor 600, Honeywell maintenance plans increases to $294 per engine per hour. Active load alleviation deflects both ailerons upward at 2.0 Gs to prevent overstressing the wing without adding structural weight. At FL410, ISA-7°C to -14°C and Mach 0.77 (442 kn; 818 km/h) cruise, the Praetor 600 burns 1,760 lb (800 kg) of fuel per hour at a weight of 40,500 lb (18,400 kg), increasing to 1,800 to 1,900 lb (820 to 860 kg) at Mach 0.794 (455 kn; 843 km/h) max cruise.
The Praetor 600 was certified by the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil by April 2019. Its range with four passengers and NBAA IFR reserves reached 4,018 nmi (7,441 km) from a 4,436 ft (1,352 m) take-off, and 3,719 nmi (6,887 km) at Mach 0.80. European and US certification were secured by May. The first delivery, to a European customer, happened on 28 June 2019.
The Praetor 500 received its Brazilian type certificate in August, achieving a 3,340 nautical miles (6,186 km) range, 466 kn (863 km/h) high-speed cruise, a takeoff within 4,222 ft (1,287 m) and a landing within 2,086 ft (636 m). This was followed by the EASA and FAA approval by the end of September. On 23 December, the first was delivered to fractional operator Flexjet, two months after signing for 64 jets, including Praetor 500/600s and light Phenom 300Es.

Embraer Legacy 450

At the August 2007 NBAA convention, Embraer unveiled a cabin mock-up of two concepts (Legacy 450 and Legacy 500) positioned between the $7 million Phenom 300 and the $26 million Legacy 600.
The Legacy 450 first flight occurred on 28 December 2013. It received its Brazilian certification on 11 August 2015. It was certified by the FAA shortly after on 31 August 2015. It can carry 7-9 passengers.

Embraer Legacy 500

At the August 2007 NBAA convention, Embraer unveiled a cabin mock-up of two concepts (Legacy 450 and Legacy 500) positioned between the $7 million Phenom 300 and the $26 million Legacy 600.
The first flight of the Legacy 500 occurred on 27 November 2012. The type certificate was received from National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC) on 12 August 2014. First delivery occurred to a Brazilian company on 11 October 2014. Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) certification was received on 21 October 2014. Delivery of the 50th Legacy 500 is expected in the third quarter of 2016. The aircraft fly-by-wire control enhances safety and comfort.
The Legacy 500 can be configured to carry up to 12 passengers. It competes with midsize jets like the $17.9 million Cessna Citation Sovereign+ and $23.4 million Cessna Citation X, but also with super-midsize $24 million Gulfstream G280 and $26 million Bombardier Challenger 350 and can be compared with the halted $21 million Learjet 85 program.

Embraer Legacy 600

Business jet variant based on the ERJ 135. Launched in 2000 at the Farnborough Airshow, the Legacy carries 13 passengers in three partitioned sections for 3,050 nautical miles (5,650 km) or 8 passengers for 3,450 nautical miles (6,390 km). It features added range via extra fuel tanks in the tail behind the baggage compartment and forward of the wing, winglets, and an extensive drag reduction program.

Embraer Legacy 650

Announced at the 2009 NBAA show, the Legacy 650 is a longer-range version of the Legacy 600 giving it a range capability of 7,220km (3,900nmi) non-stop with four passengers, or carry 1,134kg more than the 600 for a 6,290km trip. It was certified by the FAA in February 2011.

Embraer Phenom 100

The Embraer EMB-500 Phenom 100 is a very light jet, type certificate is EMB-500. The Phenom 100 has an oval fuselage. It is built of 20% composite materials. In its normal configuration it has capacity for four passengers, but it can carry up to seven passengers with a single crew, with an optional side-facing seat and belted toilet.
In April 2005 Embraer's board of directors approved the development of very light and light jets. On 9 November 2005 the company announced at the annual NBAA convention that the very light jet would be called the Phenom 100, it also displayed a full-scale mock-up of the aircraft. The aircraft first flew on 26 July 2007. It was awarded a type certificate from Brazil's National Civil Aviation Authority on 9 December 2008 and the first aircraft was delivered on 24 December 2008. As of April 2017, 350 were in service in 37 countries.

Embraer Phenom 300

The Embraer EMB-505 Phenom 300 is a light jet aircraft, that can carry up to 11 occupants. Embraer began designing the Phenom 300 after finding that potential customers of the Phenom 100 would also like a bigger aircraft. It was a new design with the aim of allowing operation to smaller airports. It first flew on 29 April 2008, and was type certificated on 3 December 2009. On 29 December 2009 Embraer delivered the first Phenom 300 to Executive Flight Services at the company's headquarters at Săo José dos Campos, Brazil.

Embraer Lineage 1000

On 2 May 2006, Embraer announced plans for the business jet variant of the 190, type name ERJ190-100 ECJ. It has the same structure as the 190, but with an extended range of up to 4,200 nmi, and luxury seating for up to 19. It was certified by the USA Federal Aviation Administration on 7 January 2009. The first two production aircraft were delivered in December 2008.
