General Dynamics

General Dynamics Corporation is an American aerospace and defense multinational corporation, formed by mergers and divestitures. It is headquartered in West Falls Church, Fairfax County, Virginia.
John Philip Holland founded the J.P. Holland Torpedo Boat Company in 1879 to develop submarines. When he grew short on funds, due to the lengthy and expensive process of introducing the world's first practical submarines, he sold his interest to financier Isaac Leopold Rice, renaming the new firm Electric Boat Company on 7 February 1899. Holland resigned from the company effective April 1904.
In 1946, the Electric Boat Company bought a controlling interest in Canadair. On 24 April 1952, Electric Boat was reorganized, merging with Canadair, as General Dynamics (GD). In 1954, GD purchased Convair and reorganised Canadair as its Canadian subsidiary. In 1976 Canadair was sold to the Canadian government.
The company has changed markedly in the post-Cold War era of defense consolidation. It has four main business segments: Marine Systems, Combat Systems, Information Systems Technology, and Aerospace.
In 1985, it acquired Cessna, which was sold to Textron in January 1992. Airframe business was terminated after selling the production of the F-16 to Lockheed in 1993 and closing down the Convair Division in 1996. However, GD re-entered it by acquiring Gulfstream Aerospace in 1999.

General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon

The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine supersonic multirole fighter aircraft developed for the United States Air Force (USAF). Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. General Dynamics' former Fort Worth Division manufactured the F-16 Fighting Falcon until 1993, when production was sold to Lockheed Martin. It is one of the Western world's most-produced jet fighters.
Co-production in the Netherlands was officially launched on 1 July 1977 at the Fokker factory.
