Since early 2018 I am an assistant professor in the Gravity group of the High Energy Physics department at the Institute for Mathematics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics (IMAPP) at Radboud University in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. My research focuses on the development of mathematical tools and numerical methods to explore the structure of spacetime on the smallest of scales, where currently known laws of gravity and quantum mechanics are in dispute.

(Although my name may suggest otherwise, I am a native Dutch speaker. So do not hesitate to address me in Dutch if you wish….)

  Simons center program "Random Geometry in Math and Physics"

  I am co-organizer of this program at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics, which will take place March 23rd - May 1st, 2026, at Stony Brook U, New York. Check out the program webpage for information.

  Gravity+ track in our Master Programme

  Our faculty offers a Gravity+ synergy track to Master students enrolled in the Master's specialisations of Mathematics and Particle & Astrophysics. The courses reflect Radboud expertise in gravity, ranging from black-hole imaging (Event Horizon Telescope) and gravitational wave astronomy to quantum gravity and mathematical foundations of general relativity. In particular, it provides a solid preparation for research in our Gravity group. Take a look at the promotional video on YouTube.

  Monte Carlo Techniques

  In the fall semester I teach a Master course on Monte Carlo Techniques. Lecture notes and exercises are available as an online Jupyter book for those interested.

  Quantum Gravity 2023

  On July 10-14, 2023 Radboud University hosted the conference Quantum Gravity 2023, bringing together researchers from all approaches to quantum gravity. Check out the conference webpage for links to recordings, slides and posters.

  Focus session at NWO Physics 2023

  I organized a focus session on Mathematical Physics at the annual Dutch physics meeting NWO Physics 2023 in Veldhoven on April 4-5, 2023.

  CDT & Friends - Jubilee edition

  The high energy physics department hosted a conference on quantum gravity approaches that are related to Causal Dynamical Triangulations (CDT) on January 25-27, 2023. Check out the conference webpage for details.

• Education prize Physics & Astronomy 20/21

  I was pleasantly surprised to receive the education prize for Physics & Astronomy from the chair of study association Marie Curie for my online teaching efforts. A big chunk of the credit goes to the students in my courses who stayed motivated despite endless Zoom sessions!
